From our recent feature on GreenwichMoms.com
As Moms (and Dads) we are constantly running around to make sure our families are taken care of but if the unexpected should happen, having the right plan in place and ensuring our families are protected are things we do not want to leave to chance. We had the pleasure of connecting with Alessandra Long. You may recognize her as the former President of the Junior League of Greenwich. We know her as the local, go-to attorney and brilliant mind looking to help steer families in the right direction.
It is so important whether you are a new young family or have older children to make sure you and your family are protected in the case of illness, injury or death. Every parent wants to make decisions for the care of their children should something happen to them as well as dictate where their assets get distributed in order to care for their children. It is necessary and prudent for every adult to have a Last Will and Testament, possibly a Living Trust, a Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy and Living Will. I call these the fantastic five documents to ensure your family is protected if the unexpected should happen.
For families with young adults heading off to college it is essential to have them at the age of 18 execute some documents for themselves, as they are adults in the eyes of the law.
Also, in the event of a change of marital status it is integral to get your documents in place so your former spouse is not making decisions on your behalf, when the better advocate would be another close family member or friend.
I am happy to assist with your legal needs and answer any questions you may have.
